Choir Practice
St. John's Church Choir
Choir practice will begin in November. We generally practice twice a month, on the first and third Wednesdays. We begin at 6:30 p.m. and practice for around an hour, depending on how much material we are learning.
We are an informal group. We laugh a lot. We learn things together, often with the help of a giant knitting needle keeping time on the music stand. We have some simple pieces, and usually, one or two “challenge pieces” that we work on for months before we actually sing those pieces in public. Most of us are not young. We make up for our average age by inviting the church’s kids (mentored beautifully by Elizabeth Hoffmaster) to join us a few times a year.
If you have a secret ambition to sing in a church choir, we will welcome you. You can simply show up for a choir rehearsal, or if you have questions, please talk to Betsy Miller-Ruben, or organists LuAnn and Faye.

In 1957 St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church became St. John’s United Church of Christ as a result of a merger. The denominations of the Congregational Christian Church, along with Evangelical and Reformed Church joined to form United Church of Christ. UCC is a distinct and diverse community of Christians that came together as one church. They joined faith and actions and currently are over 5,000 churches with nearly one million members across the U.S. The UCC serves God in the co-creation of a just and sustainable world. The UCC is a church of "firsts," a church of extravagant welcome, and a church where "…they may all be one".
